14.7 Flowchart

This flowchart assists in line selection for the current patch. Use it as guidance for what popular comps you should play when you have certain early conditions. The conditions provided for each line are recommended for the comp to perform as well as its tier suggests.

Only the most popular lines for the patch are included here. Use the tier list to see all available lines on a patch, including the strongest lines with specific artifacts, emblems, augments, or other uncommon conditions.

  • Fast 9 is quite popular. Prioritize econ augments on 2-1. Double econ is ideal as it maximizes probability of hitting and Zac can use the additional econ.

    Hi all,

Okay — I’ve read your comments over the past 2 days and I want to provide my general thoughts so far. First, thank you for anyone who wrote constructive criticism that helped me understand why the older format was better suited for you. The old format cannot come back (it uses a library that is too inflexible), but I can build an alternative that is close enough. I’ve boiled your criticisms down to the following points:

    # Criticism Response
1 The flowcharts were more visually clear than the tier list Yes, but they were less accurate and provided less information. If I introduced the 7 tier system to the flowcharts to increase their accuracy, they would have lost significant visual clarity. And the tier list currently holds 211 conditions to the old flowchart’s 148. The tier list can continue to grow due to advanced filtering functionality and grouping which was not possible with the flowchart approach.
2 It was faster to find the condition I had I’ll be generous and validate this, but the difference should be minuscule once you get used to the tier list the same way you were used to the flowchart. Both formats require a click (find correct tab / focus search bar) and both require typing to efficiently find a condition (CTRL + F in old format). However, the new format requires you to scroll after searching. That is undeniably slower, at least when dealing with only 1 condition.
3 It was more convenient to find the condition I had I agree. This is the biggest reason I am working on an alternative. Aside from changing tabs, the old format was convenient. Mouse-only navigation with scrolling was simple and the flowchart was readable. I believe this is the biggest reason people cite the visual clarity issue. If you are just scrolling down the tier list, it will look like a bunch of noise. Not the best UX for people who are used to navigating this site by scrolling.
4 Flowcharts are just better at presenting information I ask that you give me some leeway on this: Flowcharts are great, but they were not the best way to present information for TFT. I spent months looking at the MANY ways to present this information. The largest issue with flowcharts is they are highly space inefficient when you need a hundred of them, which is what TFT Flow was: A collection of 50+ mini-flowcharts.

The old format excelled at ease of navigation and answering one question: I have this condition, what can I do? It really couldn’t answer questions like “What are the best lines this patch” easily and it wasn’t even that great at comparing conditions (e.g: “Is this artifact better than this artifact?”). But I understand that because it was so good at answering that first question that the new tier list feels like a loss to the website.

So I’ve designed this — a way to see all comps that an item, augment, opener, or custom entity is a condition for. It’s in the list format that you are used to from the old website. I intend to create a page that has all of these listed in one place, separated into tabs like you are used to with Artifacts, Radiants, Emblems, Openers, Augments, etc. It won’t be the old flowchart format, but it will be the list format that many of you used before. You’ll be able to use CTRL + F like you were used to, you’ll be able to just scroll like you used to, and you’ll be able to click tabs to navigate to the condition type you currently have.

It’s going to take me a bit of time to finish this. We are entering the PBE cycle and I need to keep the site updated for Set 15 which is a big task. I’m also honestly a little drained of developing because of how long the tier list project took. But I do hear your criticisms and want you to know it hasn’t fallen on deaf ears. Appreciate the patience in the meanwhile.

I’ve never seen anyone in gaming or tech make such a dope product and at the same time have a positive attitude about the way their users engage with the product. You’re absolutely within your right to say we’re just using it wrong

  2. Anonymous

Amazing work! Takes some time to get used to but the design is perfect.

Why change the “flows”. It was the only thing that made you special and way more clear!

    1. Author avatarGM Blue

I’m going to push back on this slightly — What makes this website special is the fact it focuses on conditions instead of comps by themselves. It is a manual curation of the best conditions in the meta without requiring you to use the explorer of statistics websites. No one else focuses on that to the extent this website does. And I genuinely believe no other website is faster for learning the best conditions in the meta, which brings us to your question: Why change the flows?

Before now, you couldn’t learn the best conditions in the meta on the website quickly. There was 6 different tabs and the 3 tier system did not sufficiently delineate the true strength between lines. Even if the old flowchart adopted the 7-tier system (which would lose a TON of visual clarity in the old format with the new colors), you’d still be hunting through 6+ different tabs to learn the following:

      • Trait tracker Exotech is the best line in the meta (augment tab)
      • Flickerblade Zeri, Unending Despair Vi, and Blighting Morgana are broken (artifact tab)
      • Lots of Gold is a key condition in this meta (resource tab)

You might be thinking — well that’s only really 3 tabs. Not bad, I was already doing that before and never complained! But to know that it was only 3 tabs, you’d have to check all 6 tabs and scroll through their entire contents. Only the most engaged users would do this, so the majority of users would never know what the best lines are for the meta.

And here’s another thing: The tier list currently holds 211 conditions. The flowchart held 148 conditions with the artifact and augment tabs starting to get a bit messy. I had to artificially keep the number of conditions lower just to keep the “visual clarity” that most people love about the old format. Optimistically you could argue that the old format was more “curated”, but I can tell you that’s not the truth. There were conditions I wanted to add, but couldn’t due to reaching a space limit.

I think a lot of this will become more obvious when I provide the list page that I think older site users want. It should round out the experience for finding the best conditions for each comp, allowing any method of searching work. It will be very similar to the list view — see the picture in my comment above. I am hoping this should be helpful for those of you who are more attached to the old format.

I appreciate the changes. A couple days navigating the site and ill get used to it. Im assume the search bar is the main way to find the comps we want?

    1. Author avatarGM Blue

Yeah the search bar and personally I found myself frequently clicking on icons and comp names inside the tier list. It’s a fast shortcut that will filter for only that comp or filter only for that condition. I’ll make a video guide for it soon, but I want to make sure any bugs are dealt with first.

  9. Anonymous

This site is a lot harder to navigate for things like artifact or emblem conditions than the old one

  10. kaksi

could u pls bring old theme . with this one im about to change my fav comp site

    1. Author avatarGM Blue

Unfortunately, no. I appreciate the time you used the site, and eventually there should be pages that closer align to the original layout if you find yourself unable to adopt the new one. But it will be some time until then because we are about to enter the Set 15 PBE and launch cycle, so I will have way less time to develop in the next few weeks.

  11. Xena

I have loved your site since day 1 and this upgrade has certainly added new improvements I didn’t even think were possible. You are revolutionizing the way people learn this game, and for that you should be very proud! I unfortunately do have to admit that the site has in this process, lost one of its most valuable properties: visual clarity. There was something so satisfying about the fact that this site provided not just smart solutions to your questions, but QUICK solutions. Most of us have it open during game and as you are well aware, TFT requires you to make very fast decisions, and when you’re already overwhelmed with conditions that are new to you, that time feels even shorter.

Take a random example, ‘I am offered Divincorp emblem, what do I do?’. Before it was easy, I go to this specific emblem and see all the available lines. Now however you have prioritised the TIERS. Meaning if there are 3 separate lines for Divincorp emblem say in S, A, B tier respectively, I have to manually find each of them. This is counterintuitive. In fact, I might not even know there are multiple versions. I might see the one in S tier and play it blindly because I didn’t have time to check the lower tiers.

You did address this in one of your replies. “I am seeing one particular use-case that is common among the feedback so far which is that some portion of users are interested in “lists”. That is, they like to see all available options for a condition without having them spread across multiple brackets like the tier list does. For example, if a user is thinking about Blighting Jewel, they may want a single container that just lists all comps for Blighting Jewel in one place.” —> I think this is exactly what I’m referring to. If you do happen to go through with this change, it will be amazing! Sorry for the long comment but hope the feedback helps! Amazing job again!

    1. Author avatarGM Blue

I honestly do understand what you are saying, so I will have to consider providing the list approach long-term. It’s a bigger project than I first thought because of how I would want to integrate it into my data pipeline, but I do have some ideas. It wouldn’t come to fruition for a while though. This was a massive project that spanned multiple months and I’m not terribly eager to jump into a new one quite yet.

Here’s my counterpoint about the visual clarity of the original site: Some of it was false visual clarity. The 3-tier system was not ideal and didn’t accurately represent the gap in strength between lines. There were so many conditions listed that no player should bother even thinking about in over 99% of their games. The combination of tier list and flowchart provides you a new type of visual clarity: It helps you learn what you should do in over 90% of your games. If you just read the flowchart and learn the conditions in the OP, S+, and S tiers, you will climb WAY more than you did using the old layout.

A big reason for this shift is that it is WAY closer to how Challengers actually think about the game. The flowchart shows the main gameplan for the patch that covers 80%+ of games. The S, S+, and OP tiers cover most of the situational knowledge you should know about the patch. Anything beyond that is “bonus”. For this purpose, the new layout is much faster to parse.

I genuinely believe that for the purpose of CLIMBING, this new format is more than 10 times better. It’s genuinely not even comparable. But you are right – for the purpose of QUICKLY, while in-game, looking up a specific condition using CTRL + F and seeing all your options quickly, this new format is slightly worse and I should think about addressing that.

  12. Bbrandobee

Where do we go to see emblem options?

    1. Author avatarGM Blue

Go to the tier list and click on the Anima Squad emblem under “Condition Types” (second button). It will filter the tier list for only emblems.

  13. Anonymous

    this is not a flowchart

  14. Anonymous

Love the new updates, appreciate all of your work on the site

  15. Anonymous

LOVE THE SITE! Can you bring back the page that showed the artifacts and their lines? It was easier to decide what to pick when picking an artifact on limited time

    1. Anonymous

this, please! As well as the emblems it was very easy to see before with all of them in a line

    2. Annie

      second this!

    3. Author avatarGM Blue

The short answer for now is no, not because I am stubborn but because it was previously done manually. Fewer artifact / emblem / augment lines were provided because of this, as the page would get too inflated otherwise. The new tier list automatically updates any time I update a comp page on the website and is more space efficient — there is a good reason I am retiring the original.

HOWEVER, I am seeing one particular use-case that is common among the feedback so far which is that some portion of users are interested in “lists”. That is, they like to see all available options for a condition without having them spread across multiple brackets like the tier list does. For example, if a user is thinking about Blighting Jewel, they may want a single container that just lists all comps for Blighting Jewel in one place.

So this does give me an idea that would take some time to develop, but I could create two new pages: The comp list page and the condition list page. The comp list page lists all comps for a set on the website and lists all conditions associated with each comp. Each comp gets its own container, with each condition listed in descending order of strength. The condition list page lists all conditions for a set on the website and lists all comps associated with each condition. Each condition gets its own container, with each comp listed in descending order of strength. These pages would get automatically updated.

This is not a massive project, but still a project so it would take time to implement and I need to think about how important it is to provide, but I am considering it as I do think it is a valid case where the old format was better for a subset of users.

    GOAT SITEE!!!! THANKS BLUE!

  18. Dutzie

NOW THIS IS A WEBSITE! Holy well done mr Blue– this shit is sleek and navigation is easy to get used to.

    1. Author avatarGM Blue

      Appreciate the kind words!

  19. Author avatarGM Blue

The site is updated now for Set 14. This is how the site will work moving forward, with the flowchart page providing a quick glance at the meta (should cover 80%+ of your games honestly) and the tier list providing all the conditional knowledge that I think this site was best for.

The tier list will take some time to learn, but I also don’t think it’s too difficult to pick up. The tier rankings aren’t perfect, but they are more than enough to give most players a massive advantage in the “homework” portion of TFT. If you want to learn about what artifact or augment is good with what comp, that’s the place to be. The most important ones are obviously the S, S+, and OP lines.

I know it might take some time getting used to the new site — I was working with those Mermaid flowcharts (name of the library I used) for a long time. They did a great job for 10 months — they still have some charm to me. But I think this balanced approach of having a smaller flowchart page and in in-depth tier list page will go a long way in providing info to those who want to learn the meta.

    1. Moon

I’m sorry, but the usability got significantly worse. What made this site great was the fact that you could easily find a comp for specific item openers, augments, specific conditions and all of that is now way harder to navigate.

      1. Author avatarGM Blue

The tier list should handle this use case much better than the original flowchart did, I’m curious if you have tried using the “condition type” filter buttons directly above the chart which correspond almost 1-to-1 with the old tabs. I noted your criticism though. I’d like to know how much of it is “being used to the old thing” vs. genuine inferiority for a specific use-case.

        1. Moon

I have, Im not saying the info isnt there, just that its way worse to access.

  20. Author avatarGM Blue

I am going to start pushing major updates to the site. Expect errors for a bit, it’s going to take some time. This is months of work getting pushed all at once and while most of it is automated, some of it is not so some of you will see a transition period.

    1. Dutzie

      SO EXCITED

    2. Hobbez

thanks for all your hard work man, this has been my hidden gem of a site for so long.
