Tips & Tricks
  • You’ll want to play as many Bilgewater units as possible early game to get to Tahm Kench, but eventually you should aim to transition down to 5 or fewer Bilgewater + High Quality 5 costs. There are MANY variations. Use the dropdown box above the board to see them all.
  • For Stage 2 and 3, prioritize hitting 5 Bilgewater as soon as possible. This means prioritizing Nautilus or Gangplank off carousel if the other is in your Bilgewater shop. Feel free to buy 2 star units from the Bilge shop. Captain’s Brew is extremely high priority on Twisted Fate.
  • During Stage 2 and Stage 3, you should buy stats if you have nothing else in shop that spikes your board (upgrades) or moves you to 5 Bilgewater immediately. Remember that you must buy stats BEFORE the round starts for them to apply for that combat.
  • For feeding Tahm Kench, you should only feed him low cost units until you hit your upgraded board. 2-star 1-costs are especially efficient to feed him, but typically not easy to get. Remember to prioritize your econ for unit upgrades over feeding (no matter how much you want to feed).
  • Typically the earliest you’ll get 7 Bilgewater is 3-6 because you’ll typically level to 7 on 3-5 and unlock Fizz on 3-6. You’ll need Miss Fortune to hit 7 Bilgewater. She’s worth buying from the shop if you don’t have her yet.
  • If you are ahead of tempo, greed 7 Bilgewater and go for two 7 Bilgewater items + Captain’s Brew. If you are on tempo or behind tempo, play for one 7 Bilgewater items + Captain’s Brew then start dropping down to 5 or 3 Bilgewater with higher quality units.
  • Buy stats at all breakpoints. There are 3 stats: AD/AP, AS, and HP. Each stat has its own tier at 3, 5, and 7 Bilgewater respectively. Whenever you buy a stat at a specific tier, it becomes more expensive the next time you see it. Your goal is to buy each unique stat at each unique trait breakpoint.
  • If you are struggling to hit MF 2 or Fizz 2, roll your shops on 7 Bilgewater as they have the highest probability of offering Fizz / Miss Fortune as units.
  • Typically drop out of 7 Bilgewater once you find strong flexible unit upgrades like Wukong 2, Shyvana, Swain, Fiddle, Ziggs, etc. Sometimes 7 Bilgewater is strongest board if you don’t have any upgraded units to replace the Bilge units with, but eventually you will want to drop out.
  • Ideal gameplan is to winstreak stage 2 and stage 3. Never sit on more than 2 components and ideally never more than 1 (slam items aggressively even if suboptimal). Play 7 Bilgewater Stage 4 (often lose some rounds) and then spike in Stage 5 on level 9. Not always possible, but this is the goal.

Economy Strategy
  1. Level to 4 if you have upgrades and a good item to place on one of those upgrades.
  2. Level to 5, unless on 3 loss streak.
  3. Level to 6 if on 4+ win streak (scout to see if necessary in high elo) or can stay above 40g.
  4. Level to 6, unless you would go below 30g. If you have to stay level 5 due to low gold (rare), then level to 6 on 3-5.
  5. Level to 7 if you can stay above 30g, otherwise stay level 6.
  6. Level to 7.
  7. Level to 8. Roll for desired comp until stable. “Stable” changes depending on rank, items, augments, composition, and patch. Melee carries and tanks get the biggest spike for 2-stars. Usually stable involves 2-star tank or carry and some other supporting 2-stars. Try not to roll below 10g.
  8. If you are weak (e.g., have no 2-star 4-costs), consider rolling again to 10g here. If you are stable, save gold to go 9.
  9. If you are low HP and haven’t 2-starred your carry and tank, roll to 0g. If you have medium to high HP with an upgraded + itemized 4-cost unit and some other upgrades, save gold to go 9.
  10. If high HP, consider waiting until 5-5 to go level 9. If medium HP, consider going level 9 if you can roll 20g or wait until 5-5. If low HP and can afford to go 9, do so even if you have almost no gold to roll on 9. If you can’t afford to go 9 this game, roll every turn for upgrades.
  11. Level to 9 if possible. From this point onward, look to level to 9. Acknowledge games where level 9 is not possible and roll every turn on 8 to preserve placements.
  12. For max cap games, you can either roll on 9 or level to 10. If you are itemizing a 5-cost carry and it is 1-starred, roll on 9. If you have all your main itemized units upgraded, level to 10.

i had miss fortune 3 with two tier 7 items and got wiped off the map by 10 yordle using bandle city

I think generally prismatic is supposed to be stronger than 3 star 4 cost

I think Lichbane on Fizz could be an additional Condition that bumps the (lower cap) Bilgewater boards up. Has delta -1 on Fizz. I’m not sure how much Yordle Fizz plays a part in this though/if it’s biased because of Ornn and stuff.

do u get a higher chance at getting 4-costs in the bilge shop based on player level?

    1. Anonymous

its based on bilge shop level, not player

I dont understand Bligewater shop, was on 7 Bligewater with two items (Blackmarket explosives & Cutlass) on offer and couldn’t reroll. them Had only bought Lucky Doubloon early, was greeding for MF specific items. Wasted about 400 serpent points on Blligewater combat upgrades trying to reroll shop but market restock wouldn’t show up.
There were about 3 Bligewater players in total, maybe they get removed from a common pool or something. Anyone have any ideas?

    1. Lycanthe

Definitely been seeing the same, it seems like the re-roll comes up less the higher you get into BW.

i don’t think this comp is op tier after the hotfix. i know that a -2 silver serpent on lucky doubloons sounds like a little, but it’s actually massive. played a game where i got lucky doubloon really early, 7 bilgewater early as well, and i just didn’t had enough silver serpents to make nautilus 3* + buy the items.

  9. Anonymous

lucky doubloon now gives 1 silver serpent per takedown

    Did something get hotfixed?

Just played a game with 5-6 Bilge (never 7), very quickly ran out of bilge shop rerolls and also never saw a doubloons or brew, reached a point where stat or champ purchases hit 60+ and even then, buying them couldn’t reveal items or rerolls.

i have no idea how to win doing this. i always get the early bilgewater and no matter what i do i end up 8/7th place

    1. Selby

me neither. This comp feels like rly hard to maintain winstreak, and need lots of things to do each round. Its logic cant fit me 🙁

      1. Anonymous

I feel the same, can’t do much when the shop doesn’t give me the “good” items, its just too much RNG for me

Viego is another good unit especially two star you can run if you get an early TF

in the drop down menu, 5 bilgewater is named 3 bilgewater (freljord), im guessing the main line which used to be 5 bilgewater swapped with the frejord board but the names havnt relayed the change yet.

That’s exactly what happened lol thanks, fixed

got navori from 1st aug, slammed on TF, 100 HP level 10 at 5-7 its that OP.

Yeah just finished, 1st place, 1 MF away from 3*, only hit 3* TF at the last minute. 100 HP win. And I 100% attribute it to Flickerblade TF on R1.

Thanks for including the artifact builds, just had a gp orb living forge game. Got a tip for those who want to play bilgewater. If you have the black market restock in your shop on 5 bilgewater, put 7 bilgewater in for the restock to see a superior item or two. Once they are in your black market shop they will not go away if you drop down to 5, but you won’t find more unless you go back to 7.

wouldnt rageblade be really good on MF?
