Tips & Tricks
- This is NOT a comp guide. Each row represents a tier and units are organized within tier by hold priority in Stage 1. The top units are the highest priority holds while the bottom units are the lowest priority. See the dropdown for the 2-cost and 3-cost hold priority.
- Illaoi and Shen are played into BIlgewater, Ionia, and Bruiser Invoker openers. Sona is played with Demacia as well as Bruiser Invokers. Jarvan can be played with Demacia or Longshot Void openers, but typically does not stay on the Longshot boards.
- Qiyana + Briar are combined and played into Gangplank. Ideally from winstreak. Kog’Maw is played when the Void modules are good (must have Iron Carapace on 2 or 4 Void and other module should be Spitter Spines or Leeching Nucleus). Blitzcrank works with Cho’Gath Void opener or Demacia Poppy
- Viego plays into Shadow Isles (MUST have 2-starred on 1-4 and itemized to unlock Yorick by 2-1). Anivia is only played as a supporting unit with Bruiser Invoker and Demacia and is typically weaker than other invokers.
- Rumble and Lulu are only played into Yordles typically, which requires Teemo to perform well. Caitlyn is situational to good Void modules with Void opener Kog’Maw. Jhin is situational to good Ionia (Prosperous or Enlightened) with ideally Rageblade opener into Yunara.
- For 2-costs, TF unlocks Bilgewater (best comp in the game). Sion unlocks LeBlanc which enables Bruiser Invokers into Bruiser Ryze. Teemo enables Yordle opener. Ekko enables Ekko reroll as an option. Cho’Gath is good if your Void modules are strong into Kai’Sa.
- Xin Zhao supports the Ionia and Demacia openers and also enables the Xin Zhao hero augment on 2-1 which is quite strong this patch. Neeko + Vi work with Ekko, Longshot Defender, Ionia Ahri opener, and Ixtal.
- Yasuo works with Ionia or sometimes Yasuo reroll. Rek’Sai is especially good with offensive 2 Void module (Spitters is best) with Vanquisher Slayer opener into Gangplank Bel’Veth. The lowest tier units for 2-costs are usually unplayable, with the exception of Tristana in Yordles.
- For 3-costs, Ahri is strong because she is the best item holder for tempo AP into Ryze Ziggs. Gangplank and Nautilus are both Bilgewater units. Gangplank also can lead into Gangplank Bel’Veth. Vayne leads into Demacia longshot and often top 4s.
- Milio is good for both Ixtal opener and the Bruiser Invoker opener with Sion. Mundo plays into all of the Bruiser openers (Bilgewater, Ionia, and Bruiser Invoker). Loris works well with Shadow Isles opener, Zoe is a flexible slot for AP openers. Remaining units usually not worth holding.
Economy Strategy
- Do not spend gold on leveling this stage. If you have 2-stars and a good item, you can consider playing to win some rounds. Otherwise lose streak is common for stage 2.
- Roll to 33 gold, buying any unit that will be part of the level 4 or 5 board. You can also buy units that will be part of the level 6+ board, but you can sell those if your bench fills and you need to buy other units. Rolling to 33 gold is advisable because it allows you to save back up to 50g by 3-5.
- Do not level if you haven’t hit your 3-star 1-costs yet. If you have your 3-stars, you generally should still stay level 5 if you can win or if leveling to 6 would put you below 20g. Try to get above 40g this round.
- Ideally above 50g, level 5 at this point or level 6 with 3-stars.
- If you haven’t hit your 3-stars yet, roll to ~52g each turn. You don’t want to roll to perfect 50g as any units you buy in shop will put you below 50g. If you have 8+ copies of an itemized 1-cost, you can roll to 40g or 30g every round instead. Level to 6 once you hit your 3-stars.
- If you haven’t hit your 3-stars yet, you must roll until you hit them. You should level to 6 after hitting. In some rare games, you will miss or spend so much gold you can never catch up. These games will usually result in bottom 4 placements.
- Level to 7 if you can stay above ~20g. Otherwise stay level 6.
- Level to 7.
- Level to 8 if you are in bottom half of lobby HP and are losing rounds. If you are higher HP and feel stable, you can wait until next turn.
- Level to 8 if you haven’t already. Roll for any remaining units necessary for the comp. If stable, you can try to go 9. Most games you will end on level 8.
- Level to 9 whenever possible. This is rare, but can happen in the games you have a chance of winning.

thanks for all the work!! GOAT
