Tips & Tricks
- Lucian is a better item holder early game than Janna or Ziggs, so itemize him if you can upgrade him. Can also potentially consider Gnar with Rageblade with a Crew opener (Sivir Malphite Gnar Kennen etc.)
- Core Akali items are Rageblade + Archangel. Third item is highly flexible. Consider Shojin, Edge of Night, Striker’s, QSS, Titan’s, etc.
- Crimson Veil is looking to be the best power up so far — consider rolling for it. Dark Amulet is probably okay with some combat augments, but hard to survive with it compared to Crimson Veil.
- You can either play double Akali on 9, Jarvan, or Zyra. Also it might be possible that dropping to 4 Protector to fit Jarvan, second Akali, and Zyra is worth it.
- Positioning is important. If the opponent’s carry is in the corner, position 3 hexes in from left for left corner and 3 hexes in from the right for right corner. If they move their carry, match their move — you only need to move Akali in this comp as she won’t take aggro at the start of a fight.
- Yuumi is a particularly dangerous unit against Akali because she can kill Akali without targeting her. If you have a Yuumi player in your pool, prioritize positioning for them.
- Counter positioning for Akali is cubby with corner bait (place your carry on hex C1 with a unit in D1). Not known if there is a way that Akali players can counter this yet.
- The comp really wants a radiant or artifact item on Akali or one of the broken combat augments. Outside of that, it is more of a top 4 comp.

Economy Strategy
- Level to 4 if you have upgrades and a good item to place on one of those upgrades.
- Level to 5, unless on 3 loss streak.
- Level to 6 if on 4+ win streak (scout to see if necessary in high elo) or can stay above 40g.
- Level to 6, unless you would go below 30g. If you have to stay level 5 due to low gold (rare), then level to 6 on 3-5.
- Level to 7 if you can stay above 30g, otherwise stay level 6.
- Level to 7.
- Level to 8. Roll for desired comp until stable. “Stable” changes depending on rank, items, augments, composition, and patch. Melee carries and tanks get the biggest spike for 2-stars. Usually stable involves 2-star tank or carry and some other supporting 2-stars. Try not to roll below 10g.
- If you are weak (e.g., have no 2-star 4-costs), consider rolling again to 10g here. If you are stable, save gold to go 9.
- If you are low HP and haven’t 2-starred your carry and tank, roll to 0g. If you have medium to high HP with an upgraded + itemized 4-cost unit and some other upgrades, save gold to go 9.
- If high HP, consider waiting until 5-5 to go level 9. If medium HP, consider going level 9 if you can roll 20g or wait until 5-5. If low HP and can afford to go 9, do so even if you have almost no gold to roll on 9. If you can’t afford to go 9 this game, roll every turn for upgrades.
- Level to 9 if possible. From this point onward, look to level to 9. Acknowledge games where level 9 is not possible and roll every turn on 8 to preserve placements.
- For max cap games, you can either roll on 9 or level to 10. If you are itemizing a 5-cost carry and it is 1-starred, roll on 9. If you have all your main itemized units upgraded, level to 10.
Just had a giga highroll with this comp, got akali at 2-3 w/ crimson veil on first fruit, 2 star at 3-5 and Mr 100’d the entire game. Definitely felt illegal.
2nd place also ran the same comp, so even contested its showing good results.
High burst champs are definitely scary to go up against, only came close to losing when Akali got targeted by a manazane Kai’sa but was at a point where my Ryze and K’sante could clean up. Lobby was not ready for this comp, was vs Ashe, Kai’sa, Jhin and Karma boards in which Akali just devours. Fights were either over fast if Akali was correct side, or over in 15 seconds. The protectors provided enough stall for Akali to 1v9. Can imagine this comp doing worse if there more burst/melee comps in the lobby.
got 3star Akali with Radiant Archangels, Rageblade and Radiant Blue Buff on Prismatic Party, beat out 3star Volibear and 3star Samira on Edgelord board for first
My read after the first day of studying this comp: Crimson Veil is best Power Up by far. The comp does not cap high due to the lack of a good secondary carry usually. But it is a strong comp when played from a good spot — those good spots being mainly artifacts and radiant items, as well as some strong combat augments like Sated Spellweaver and Backup Dancers.
Edge of Night is not mandatory. Plenty of builds performing well with Rageblade + Archangel, including Shojin / Striker’s / Titans / Second Archangel / QSS / etc. Core Akali is rageblade + archangel, don’t sweat the 3rd item slot too much.
Here’s what isn’t solved yet: Is this the best board to abuse Akali? Don’t know yet. I expect we’ll see more of that in the coming days. Anyway, that’s my read for today. Take it or leave it. Feel free to keep sharing your experiences.
Concerning Isekai, I’ve heard from a study group partner that Ekko cast resets Akali’s marks and thus should not be clicked. Not sure about the info but should be investigated.
While looking at very high elo end boards, I’ve found some players in Asia play 3 Supreme Cells, 3 Mighty Mechs (Aatrox, J4, Karma) + K’Sante + Ryze version. This version may be preferable in high ressource games as you have a good secondary carry in Karma (better than Ryze imo) and a good secondary tank in J4 at level 8, thus benifitting both from high econ and multiple items in comparison to the cheap 6 protectors main board.
alternatively thrillseeker is a decent fruit as well
seekers armguard viable and tuff js clutched me an 8th
It’s a semi-stall comp if your opponents have a lot of units in the backline, and not as great against frontline heavy comps. EoN not required if you roll Crimson Veil. Rage blade helps Akali not get stuck autoing late games.
early game spot ezreal rakan is a great item holder, really only play this while healthy; fight rng kinda wacky. had success on master elo
Just tried got an easy top 2, lost to 7 crystal gambit only
have been spamming this to test it out. some games it feels amazing, some games it feels awful even with the same builds and similar augments. itemized 2* braum that lives long enough just destroys this especially if you dont know how to position properly. just got destroyed by a good soul fighter comp also but it looked like he high rolled quite a bit (also included braum so…)
Idk i tryed 5 games of it went 8-5 th,tbh it looks total ass
i like to have rageblade + gunblade as the item flex, so that if theres an tf or a pair of ashe in the lv8 roll down, its still very playable.
u need edge on akali, she gets one shot by kaisa
I’ll gladly edge akali!
anyone try zhonya’s yet?
my experience is (maybe I am doing something wrong) that when I take dark amulet Akali dies almost instantly.
Yeah it’s probably just Crimson Veil, think it makes a big difference and just rely on Archangel / Guinsoo for the scalability. Or at the very least, if you go Dark Amulet you probably need to go EoN and can’t go Shojin. Still not sure whether it’s EoN or Shojin with Crimson Veil. Again, things getting figured out literally every hour as the comp is brand new.
Friend played in gold got 2nd to 10k Hp garen hero augment, so went well! Had dark amulet and classic build (archangel rageblade shojin). He will play more and report back
Personal notes from the a game where I went first with this (Shojin, Rageblade, Archangels Itemization)
– Definetly a 1 unit comp so its probably best to focus on getting your akali as strong as possible with augments (The strong survive felt pretty good)
– Dark Amulet feels really good as long as you have some sort of omnivamp (in my case sated spellweaver)
– The amount of times my akali barely survived and dodged casts thanks to Shojin felt absolutely illegal even at 1 star. I can see why Shojin is good in the stats.
– Will probably be weaker once the comp becomes popular as people are getting better at positioning against it. If you put your carry in the same side as akali it WILL die 5-6 seconds into the fight.
read your comment about it being a 1 unit comp, just realised you can put tank items on jarvan/neeko and play all out ksante if you have the items for it, and it’s basically the old all out ksante comp with different itemization on akali
bro thinks she’s set 10 kda akali
all jokes aside the comp seems like its top 4 at best, I had EoN + Radiant Archangel + Guinsoo in one of my runs and whilst i can confirm edge of night is seems mandatory for her, the issue is that she gets into a lot of situations where she dashes to a backline then back to a frontline right around the time one of the weaker protector units die and suddenly yuumi has decided to unleash her whole blast at her. Even with a radiant archangel she cannot stack enough damage fast enough to do much of anything besides being a mosquito.
Mage seems like it is the best only when the opponent has a lot of backline units, I tested it against a lobby full of comps with 1/2 backline units such as kai sa and kayle reroll and all it really did was place her infront of them and immediately get targeted.
The more I think about it, the more I feel like Mage is really not good at all for this version of Akali. Feel a lot more confident in Crimson Veil (which provides a big shield that gives her durability and more time to scale) and Dark Amulet. But I really need to see some games with it in high elo to evaluate how good it is — it’s a VERY positioning dependent comp and augments are probably important too given that it is a 1 unit comp.
It’s interesting and EoN + Mage Akali creates a pretty cool unit that is basically invulnerable because at some point she starts casting so often that the enemy units can’t target her before she starts casting again, but it takes a while to stack to that point, and it had a lot of pitfalls, Star Guardians were basically unbeatable as the shield from Rell was enough to stop Akali from killing Jinx before she stacked to infinity. A lot of comps seem to just kill the Akali before she becomes a problem, as her damage for the first 15 seconds of the round is pretty terrible. You also seem incredibly weak with that Protector Opening, Janna just can’t carry against most early game units from the 3-4 games that I tried it. I would personally bring it down to a B tier maybe an A with good augments.
Switching recommendations to Shojin + Dark Amulet for now. Can try that out next. The stats REALLY like Shojin, but very low sample. I am theorycrafting that Dark Amulet would be really strong with that build, but it’s low survivability. Crimson Veil might also be good for scaling. Mage might not be good for this particular version of Akali (it’s usually her best Power Up, but maybe not in this comp – Dark Amulet makes a lot of sense).
Same Anonymous that wrote this comment earlier, I’m not “high elo” but I’m currently sitting around D2 and usually peak around 300LP Master. After trying multiple variations of the comp about a handful of times, I think Shojin is significantly better than EoN. Lucian is definitely the play as well early, without him you lose too much HP. IMO achievable BiS is Shojin + Guinsoo’s + Archangel + Crimson Veil. EoN replaces Shojin if you have Dark Amulet, it’s a fun comp, and I think strong from the right spot, but I have a caveat, admittedly I don’t really look at stats so I could be totally wrong, but I’ve played the comp about a dozen times now, and I run into the same problem basically every game. Positioning is so important that unless you’re playing a lobby where everyone is positioning their carries in similar ways, you’re just doomed to like a 4th at best. The variance in positioning is too massive in this comp, if you have 3 possible fights and 2 of them have carries in right corner, and 1 has a carry in the left corner, you will almost definitely lose the fight if you match with the guy who is opposite. I don’t really think the brain power needed to min max positioning every single round AND rely on RNG that your lobby isn’t playing multiple different spots is worth the strength of this comp.
